Pile Load Test Hamburg PORR

Pile Load Testing under Extreme Conditions with Precision up to Maximum Load Limits

Power multiplied by fifteen: In this bridge construction project, we are operating at the limits of what is technically feasible. For the pile load test of a new bridge in Hamburg, a massive pile cap was positioned with centimeter level accuracy using 15 high performance hydraulic jacks, each with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes. The result is a precisely coordinated load distribution system at the highest level of engineering.
On behalf of Porr, a 48 hour load test was carried out with a total load of up to 15,000 tonnes. The objective of the test was to accurately measure the settlement behavior of the piles under extreme load conditions and to verify their load bearing capacity under realistic conditions.

Load test

On behalf of Porr, a 48 hour load test was carried out with a total load of up to 15,000 tonnes. The objective of the test was to precisely record the settlement behavior of the piles under extreme load conditions and to verify their load bearing capacity under realistic conditions.
A hydraulic cylinder with a nominal capacity of 15,000 tonnes was used, complemented by a specially designed hose system and a high performance electric pump with an oil volume of 1,000 liters. Two electric motors ensured reliable operation and precise control of the system throughout the entire test duration.

This project clearly demonstrates how modern hydraulics, precise measurement technology, and well engineered system integration work together to control even exceptional loads in bridge construction safely, accurately, and reproducibly. It represents a true technical masterpiece in the heart of Hamburg.
