Load handling devices

LOAD HANDLING DEVICES SAFE SOLUTIONS FOR GRIPPING AND MOVING LOADS

Load handling devices are specialized tools used to safely grip, hold, and move loads. They form the central connection between the hoisting equipment, such as a crane or hoist, and the load itself. Unlike lifting gear, load handling devices are not permanently attached to the hoisting equipment but are selected and exchanged depending on the application.

Their purpose is to grip, clamp, lift, or carry loads in a controlled manner without causing damage or exposing them to uncontrolled movement. Depending on the shape, weight, and surface of the load, different load handling devices are used. These include spreader beams for even load distribution, grabs and clamps for plates, pipes, or profiles, C hooks for coils, lifting magnets for ferromagnetic materials, and vacuum lifters for smooth and sensitive surfaces.

In general, load handling devices are classified according to their mode of operation. Form fitting systems such as spreader beams, forks, or cages support the load through their geometric design. Friction based systems such as grabs, clamps, or magnets hold the load through friction or adhesion forces. In addition, there are passive load handling devices without their own drive as well as active systems equipped with hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical functions.
Load handling devices are used wherever heavy, bulky, or sensitive loads need to be moved safely, for example in construction, steel and plant engineering, industry, or assembly operations. They are subject to strict safety requirements and must be regularly inspected and used correctly to ensure safe lifting operations.

Lifting gear / Rigging equipment

are an essential component of every lifting solution.

They connect the hoisting equipment with the load handling device and ensure safe force transmission. Depending on the load and application, chains, round slings, or wire ropes are used.

Hoisting equipment

The right hoisting equipment is essential for a safe lifting operation.

Cranes, hoists, or other lifting devices provide the required lifting force and enable precise load movement. Only in combination with lifting gear and load handling devices does a complete lifting system come together.
